Caesar salad has always felt like the ultimate comfort salad. It is crisp and refreshing thanks to the romaine lettuce, but it also has all the rich, savory extras that make it feel like a real meal: creamy dressing, buttery croutons, plenty of Parmesan cheese, and, in this version, tender shrimp cooked with fresh garlic. This Garlic Shrimp Caesar Salad is simple enough for a weeknight dinner, but it still feels special because every part is made with care.

The best thing about this shrimp Caesar salad recipe is the balance of textures and flavors. The lettuce stays cool and crunchy, the homemade croutons add a toasted bite, and the garlic shrimp bring warmth and a delicious savory finish. The Caesar dressing is creamy, tangy, salty, and bold without being complicated. Instead of using a raw egg yolk, this version starts with mayonnaise, which makes the dressing quick to blend and easy to prepare ahead of time.

If you enjoy shrimp, this salad is a wonderful way to turn a classic Caesar into a more filling dish. Shrimp cook quickly, absorb garlic flavor beautifully, and pair perfectly with lemon, Parmesan, and crisp greens. They also make the salad feel hearty enough to serve as lunch or dinner without needing much else on the side. The shrimp should be cooked just until pink and opaque, with a lightly golden edge from the hot pan.

Homemade croutons are also worth the small amount of effort. Cubed French bread is baked until dry, tossed with melted butter, olive oil, and herbs, then baked again until golden and crisp. The result is much more flavorful than packaged croutons, and they add a fresh, rustic crunch to every bite. The croutons can be made before assembling the salad, so everything comes together smoothly when it is time to serve.

This garlic shrimp Caesar salad is especially good when served immediately after the shrimp are cooked. The contrast between the warm shrimp and the chilled lettuce makes the salad taste fresh but substantial. For the best presentation, arrange the chopped romaine on a serving platter or in a large bowl, scatter the shrimp over the top, add the croutons, and finish with shaved Parmesan cheese. Drizzle the dressing just before serving, or serve it on the side so everyone can add as much as they like.

Although the recipe has a few components, each step is straightforward. Blend the Caesar dressing, bake the croutons, quickly sauté the shrimp, and assemble. The final salad looks impressive, tastes bold and fresh, and delivers everything people love about a classic Caesar salad with the extra bonus of garlicky seafood. Whether you are making it for a casual dinner, a weekend lunch, or a simple meal that feels a little more polished, this homemade garlic shrimp Caesar salad is a reliable favorite.

Ingredients

  • For the dressing
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • juice of ½ lemon
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 2-3 anchovy fillets
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • For the croutons
  • ½ loaf French bread cut into cubes
  • ½ stick ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dry parsley
  • 1 teaspoon dry basil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • For the salad
  • 8 cups fresh romaine lettuce washed and chopped
  • ¼ cup shaved Parmesan cheese
  • 1 lb raw shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 2-3 garlic cloves finely minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Prepare the Caesar dressing first. Add all dressing ingredients to a blender or food processor and blend until smooth, creamy, and well combined. Set the dressing aside until the salad is ready to assemble.
  • Make the croutons. Preheat the oven to 375F. Spread the cubed French bread in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake for about 10 minutes, until the bread is dry and lightly golden.
  • In a large bowl, stir together the melted butter, olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, parsley, basil, and salt. Add the toasted bread cubes and toss until evenly coated. Return the bread to the baking sheet and bake for about 10 more minutes, or until crisp and golden. Set aside.
  • When you are ready to serve the salad, cook the shrimp. Heat the olive oil and minced garlic in a large nonstick pan over medium-high heat. As soon as the garlic begins to sizzle, add the shrimp in an even layer.
  • Cook the shrimp for 2-3 minutes, then flip them over. Season with salt and pepper and cook for a few more minutes, until the shrimp are light pink, fully opaque, and lightly golden on the outside.
  • Arrange the chopped romaine lettuce in a serving dish. Top with the warm garlic shrimp, homemade croutons, shaved Parmesan cheese, and Caesar dressing. Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor.
