Graduation Charcuterie Board Supplies

Before you start assembling your graduation charcuterie board, gather the basic tools and serving pieces. Having everything ready makes the process much easier, especially if you are preparing food for a larger group.

  • Cookie and Cheese Cutters: Use alphabet cutters for the “CONGRATS” letters and star cutters for decorative cheese shapes.
  • Plastic Wrap: Cover prepared items or the finished board before storing it in the refrigerator.
  • Extra Large Cutting Board: A large board gives you enough room for meats, cheeses, fruit, dips, and decorative details.
  • Ramekins: Small bowls are ideal for jam, pepper jelly, dips, olives, or other loose ingredients.
  • Toothpicks: Toothpicks help guests pick up smaller foods and can also hold folded meats together.

It is also helpful to set out serving utensils, plates, napkins, and small forks. Although charcuterie boards are designed for easy snacking, some guests prefer not to eat with their fingers, so offering options is always a good idea.

What To Put On A Charcuterie Board

A graduation charcuterie board is easy to personalize. There are no strict rules, so you can use the ingredients listed in the recipe or swap in favorites that your graduate and guests will enjoy.

Most charcuterie boards include a mix of salty, sweet, creamy, crunchy, and fresh ingredients. Combining different textures and colors helps the board look full and inviting.

  • Hard cheese
  • Soft cheese
  • Dips or spreads
  • Chips
  • Nuts
  • Dried fruit
  • Smoked or cured meats
  • Fresh vegetables
  • Pretzels
  • Crackers
  • Fresh fruit

Make Your Charcuterie Board Ahead Of Time

You can prep many parts of this board before the party. Slice the cheese, wash and dry the fruit, cut out the cheese letters and stars, and portion dips or jam into ramekins. Doing these steps ahead of time makes assembly much faster when guests are about to arrive.

If your board fits in the refrigerator, you can arrange it in advance and cover it tightly with plastic wrap. Do not store it for more than three days, and make sure the cheeses and dips are well covered so they do not dry out.

If the cutting board is too large for your refrigerator, prep the ingredients separately and assemble the board shortly before serving. This is often the easiest option for a large graduation party because the board will look fresh and full when guests arrive.

Meats

  • 12 ounces Pepperoni sliced
  • 12 ounces Salami sliced
  • 9 slices Salami for the rose

Cheese

  • 8 slices Cheddar
  • 8 slices Colby Jack
  • 8 slices Pepper Jack
  • 8 slices Swiss
  • 1 cup Fresh mozzarella pearls
  • 1 small Brie quartered
  • 1 small Herbed Boursin cheese
  • 6 slices Fontina sliced thin for shapes
  • 5 slices Cheddar cut into alphabet shapes for words

Fruit

  • 1 cup Strawberries
  • 1 cup Green grapes
  • 1 cup Purple grapes
  • 6 slices Watermelon
  • 1 cup Blackberries
  • 1 cup Blueberries
  • 4 slices Pineapple
  • 2 Oranges sliced

Vegetables

  • 1 cup Baby tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup Green olives

Jams

  • 1/4 cup Pepper jelly

Instructions

Make The Salami Rose

  • Place the first slice of salami halfway inside a small glass, letting the other half fold over the rim.
  • Add the second slice so it overlaps the first slice halfway, again folding it over the rim.
  • Continue layering the remaining salami slices around the glass, overlapping each piece to create a rose shape.
  • Once all 9 slices are in place, turn the glass upside down and lightly press the salami onto the board.
  • Carefully remove the glass and set the salami rose aside until you are ready to place it on the board.

Make The Charcuterie Board Letters

  • Use alphabet cutters to cut the word “CONGRATS” from the cheddar slices, then set the letters aside.
  • Use star-shaped cutters to cut several cheese stars for decoration.
  • Keep the letters and stars chilled until it is time to decorate the board.

Arrange The Charcuterie Board

  • Prepare the watermelon and pineapple, then set them aside.
  • Place a ramekin on the board and fill it with pepper jelly.
  • Fold the salami slices in half, then fold them again into quarters. Stack them in a line and secure with a toothpick if needed.
  • Repeat the same folding method with the pepperoni slices and place them on the lower half of the board.
  • Add the brie wedges, salami rose, and Boursin cheese to the board.
  • Surround part of the brie with folded salami and blueberries.
  • Place the fresh mozzarella pearls near the bottom of the board.
  • Arrange the sliced cheeses on the board, keeping each type of cheese grouped together.
  • Add the fruits, tomatoes, and olives in different areas, using them to fill open spaces and add color.
  • Lay the “CONGRATS” cheese letters on top of the fresh mozzarella pearls.
  • Finish by placing the cheese stars across the board as festive graduation garnish.
