Espresso martinis are always a favorite, but making them for a crowd can quickly become complicated. Pulling fresh espresso shots, measuring every cocktail, shaking with ice, and finding enough coupe glasses is not always practical, especially when you are hosting outdoors or serving drinks away from home. This open can espresso martini solves that problem in the easiest way.

Instead of starting from brewed espresso, this recipe uses chilled canned espresso as the base. The top of the can is removed, a little liquid is poured out to make room, and the cocktail ingredients are stirred directly into the can. It is simple, fast, and surprisingly stylish when finished with a creamy cold foam topping and coffee bean garnish.

This canned espresso martini is especially useful for entertaining. It works well for casual parties, beach days, tailgates, camping trips, girls’ night, or any gathering where you want a fun coffee cocktail without setting up a full bar. Since each drink is served in its own can, there is no need for extra glassware, and cleanup is minimal.

The drink has the familiar flavor profile of an espresso martini: bold coffee, vodka, coffee liqueur, and a creamy finish. Bailey’s Irish Cream adds richness, while the Disaronno cold foam brings a soft almond note that pairs beautifully with coffee and cream. The result is smooth, lightly sweet, and easy to sip.

For a classic espresso martini look, garnish each drink with three coffee beans. This traditional garnish is often associated with health, wealth, and happiness, and it gives the finished cocktail a polished presentation even though it is served straight from the can.

Ingredients

Ingredients for open can espresso martinis including canned espresso, vodka, coffee liqueur, Irish cream, heavy cream, and Disaronno.
  • Canned Espresso – Starbucks Espresso & Cream works well for this recipe because it is ready to drink and already has a creamy coffee flavor. Other canned coffee drinks can also be used, but the sweetness, strength, and texture of the final cocktail may change depending on the brand.
  • Vodka – Use any vodka you enjoy. Plain vodka keeps the drink classic, while vanilla vodka adds a dessert-like flavor that works nicely with coffee and cream.
  • Coffee Liqueur – Kahlua gives the cocktail a sweeter flavor with chocolate notes. Mr. Black is a good choice if you prefer a stronger coffee taste with less sweetness.
  • Irish Cream – Bailey’s Irish Cream adds body, sweetness, and a smooth creamy finish that blends well with the canned espresso.
  • Heavy Cream – Heavy cream is important for making the cold foam thick and stable. Lower-fat milk or dairy-free substitutes may not create the same dense, creamy texture.
  • Disaronno – This amaretto-style liqueur adds a gentle almond flavor to the cold foam. Licor 43 can be used as a substitute if desired.
  • Coffee Beans – Optional, but recommended for the classic espresso martini garnish.

Tips

  1. Remove the can top carefully. Use a can-top opener designed to remove the lid cleanly so the can can be used as both the mixing vessel and the serving cup. Always check the rim before serving.
  2. Chill everything first. This cocktail is not shaken with ice, so the canned espresso, vodka, coffee liqueur, Irish cream, and Disaronno should be cold before mixing.
  3. Pour out enough coffee to make room. Removing about one-third of the liquid from each can leaves space for the alcohol and cold foam without overflowing.
  4. Make the foam just before serving. The Disaronno cold foam tastes best when freshly shaken and spooned over the drinks right away.
  5. Need a shortcut? If you do not want to make cold foam, an alcohol-infused whipped cream can be used as a quick topping instead.
