Creamy Fruit-Free Keto Green Smoothie with Hemp Protein

Fruit-free Green Smoothie Recipe

Keto Fruit-Free Green Smoothie

A creamy, low-carbohydrate green smoothie made with avocado, spinach, lemon, vanilla, and collagen for a simple keto-friendly drink with very little sugar.

This keto fruit-free green smoothie is a refreshing option when you want something quick, nourishing, and easy to blend. It is designed to be low in carbohydrates, naturally light in sugar, and satisfying enough to enjoy as a simple breakfast, snack, or post-workout drink. While avocado and lemon are technically fruits, this recipe is fruit-reduced and keeps sweetness to a minimum, making it a good fit for a low-carb or ketogenic lifestyle.

Collagen works especially well in smoothies because it blends smoothly and does not add a strong flavor. The original version of this recipe used hemp protein, which made it fully vegan, but that ingredient is no longer available in the same way. Collagen is now used for a clean, neutral protein boost. If you prefer to keep the smoothie vegan, simply replace the collagen with your favorite vegan protein powder. Choose an unsweetened option if you want to keep the recipe as low in sugar and carbohydrates as possible.

Why This Keto Green Smoothie Works

Blended drinks can be a practical way to include healthy fats in a keto routine without preparing a full meal. Avocado gives this smoothie a creamy texture while adding fat and body. Baby spinach provides a mild green flavor and blends easily, especially in a high-powered blender. Fresh lemon juice brightens the flavor, while vanilla extract adds a soft, dessert-like aroma without the need for fruit or sweeteners.

The result is a smooth, fresh, and lightly tangy green smoothie that does not taste overly “green.” It is simple enough for busy mornings and flexible enough to customize. Use cold water for a lighter drink, or unsweetened almond milk for a creamier texture. If you like a thicker smoothie, add an extra ice cube or a little more avocado. If you prefer a thinner smoothie, blend in a splash more liquid until it reaches your ideal consistency.

MCT oil powder

MCT oil is also available in powdered form, which can be easier to mix into smoothies, coffees, and other recipes. Powdered MCT can be more convenient for travel and may feel gentler for people who do not tolerate liquid MCT oil well. If you choose to add MCT oil or MCT powder to this smoothie, start with a small amount and increase gradually according to your personal preference and digestion.

Optional Keto Fat Bomb Add-Ins

If you are following a ketogenic approach and want to increase the fat content, this smoothie can be turned into a richer keto fat bomb. Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of MCT oil, 1 to 2 tablespoons of hemp oil or flavored fish oil, or a small handful of raw macadamia nuts or sunflower seeds. These additions make the smoothie more filling and increase its fat content without relying on sweet fruit.

Because this recipe is intentionally mild and unsweetened, it is also easy to adjust to your taste. If you are used to sweet smoothies, the flavor may be more subtle than a banana or berry-based drink. The vanilla and lemon help balance the greens, while avocado creates a creamy finish. For the smoothest texture, add the liquid ingredients first, then the powders, avocado, spinach, and ice. Blend until completely smooth and drink right away for the best flavor and texture.

This smoothie is best served immediately after blending. As with most green smoothies, the texture and color are freshest right away. If it sits for too long, it may separate slightly. If that happens, simply shake or re-blend before drinking.

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups water or unsweetened almond milk
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon alcohol-free vanilla extract
  • 1 scoop, about 30 grams, collagen or protein powder of your choice
  • 35 g avocado, approximately 1/2 medium avocado
  • 50 g raw baby spinach, approximately 1 cup
  • 4 ice cubes
Instructions
  1. Add the ingredients to the jug of a high-powered blender in the order listed. Blend on high for 1 to 2 minutes, or until the smoothie is completely smooth and creamy. Serve immediately.
Notes
To make this smoothie into a keto fat bomb, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of MCT oil, 1 to 2 tablespoons of flavored fish oil, or a small handful of raw macadamia nuts or sunflower seeds. For a vegan version, replace the collagen with an unsweetened vegan protein powder.

Serving Tips

For the best low-carb green smoothie, use fresh baby spinach and ripe avocado. A ripe avocado blends more easily and gives the drink a creamier texture. If your blender is not very powerful, chop the avocado first and blend the liquid, protein powder, and spinach before adding the ice. This helps create a smoother final result.

If you want a colder, thicker smoothie, use chilled almond milk and add an extra ice cube. If the lemon flavor is too strong, start with 2 tablespoons and add more after blending. This recipe is intentionally simple, so small adjustments can make it suit your personal taste while still keeping it keto-friendly and low in sugar.
